The Beavers
We have had another super year in Beavers here at Warley. Mick Harrop has completed his training and has passed with flying colors - well done Mick - Margaret Whitely is now in uniform and has applied for her Scout Warrant. She is looking forward to starting her training later in the year.
We visited Temple Newsham and the Beavers enjoyed looking around the farm. After lunch we did some tracking and walked through the grounds. The day was rounded off with a visit to Harry Ramsdens where we all enjoyed fish and chips. The day was a great success.
For Father’s Day the Beavers decorated envelopes and filled them with chocolates for their dads.
The year was finished off with a visit to
Bradley Woods where the Beavers used the grass
sledges, which they really enjoyed. The evening ended with a ‘sausage sizzle’ and a
sing song, again a very enjoyable time was had by all.
September saw the start of the new 6-25 programme, which looks very exciting, and means for the first tine the Beavers can work towards badges. We are now holding joint meetings with the Cubs at Warley, which are proving successful in helping integration between the two sections. All the Beavers are now in the new uniform and all look very smart.
We have had various people come to talk to the Beavers, including David Sunderland (Explorer Scout Leader) who talked about safety. Oriel Kelly who talked about a village in Tanzania and a Buddhist nun called Maitrie who explained all about her religion. We would like to thank everyone who has given their time to come and see us and have all been well received.
We have visited the Church, and The Fire Station and the Beavers were allowed to use the equipment and ring the Church Bell. Thank you to Stephen Bradberry and Jason Mills for making these visits possible.
For the first time the Beavers joined with Rainbows and had a stall at the Church Fair. The Beavers planted Hyacinths to sell at this event and raised over £40 for Church funds.
At Christmas we had a joint party with the Cubs, which was great fun. We also made table decorations, which would not have been out of place at the Savoy but unfortunately, we forgot about them and they were left in the church hall. Many apologies to the Beavers for this.
In January we hosted a district ‘shorts and shades’ party, which was attended by over 100 Beavers who all had a ball.
At February half term we went to see the pantomime. Sleeping Beauty, and some of our Beavers went on stage to sing.
For Mothers Day we made baskets and cards.
During the year we have participated in various crafts, played games and walked to
Warley.
We now have a brilliant Scout and Guide room and would like to thank David Sunderland (Explorer Scout Leader) and Mick Harrop (Beaver Leader) for all their effort and hard work.
Finally we would like to thank the Church for the use of the building and the continued support throughout the year.
